AN EVENING OF CHRISTMAS CAROLS |
Christmas Carols and an evening of fellowship was held on 22nd December,2015 at NCMH,Borella. Clients at Gorakana Residential Centre and Borella Centre were participated in the X'mas Carol Programme. They also received gifts. Some distinguished invitees were present at this occasion. The Management Committee of NCMH wishes to thank especially to volunteers and all those who have extended their co-operation to make this event a success. |

TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF COLOMBO |
A programme of practice placement work was carried out at the Gorakana Residential Facility on 3rd December 2015 for the 3rd year students who follow the social work study stream at the Department of Sociology, University of Colombo. This will enable them to successfully complete the practice placement component which is a strong aspect of the social work study program. |

WORKSHOP ON 'STRESS MANAGEMENT & HEALTHY BALANCED LIFE |
Dr. Nirosha Mendis, President, Consultant Psychiatrist of NCMH held a presentation on 28 October 2015 on the topic 'Stress Management and a Healthy Balanced Life' at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, for the staff of faculty of Management studies and Commerce. |

MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME |
A two hour musical entertainment programme was held for the care receivers at the Rehabilitation Division in NCMH Sahanaya Borella, on the 19th of October 2015. This programme was sponsored by Mr Rohitha Abeysekara, General Manager of Asset Group of Companies, Colombo 7. |

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAMME |
A mental health awareness programme was held on the 14th of October 2015 at the "Vijayaba Infantry Regiment" in Kurunegala for 300 Army Personnel. Consultant Psychiatrist at Gorakana & Sahanaya, Dr Gamini Prematilake and Medical Officer at Gorakana facility chaired the programme. It is recognized that military personnel are a demographic that requires awareness of the significance of mental health following the traumatic experiences of a war. This need has been recognized by NCMH and as a result has initiated such awareness programmes throughout the country. |

ROYAL COLLEGE - AWARENESS PROGRAMME 2015 |
Awareness programme on 'YahapathDivipavathmak', was organized by Royal College Counseling Unit, on 12th October 2015 for year 10 students. A presentation on this topic was addressed by Dr. Nirosha Mendis, President of the NCMH, Consultant Psychiatrist. The programme was participated by Teachers of Royal College and B.J. Mudalige, Chief Administrator of NCMH. At the conclusion of the programme, the opportunity was given to the students to express their thoughts and any questions they wish to clarify |

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY – OCTOBER 2015 |
World Mental Health Day is an annual event commemorated around the world on 10th October. This day was created by the World Health Organization, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues. The NCMH was able to commemorate this event on 09th October 2015, at the Head Office, Borella.
The programme commenced by lighting of the traditional oil lamp and a religious activity being conducted by Ven. AthulaThero of Borella. The Chief Guest was represented by Mr. Shan Wickremasinghe, Chairman,Teleshan Net Work (Pvt) Ltd., followed by other distinguished invitees as Professor Nalaka Mendis, founder of the NCMH, Dr. Nirosha Mendis, President, Consultant Psychiatrist of NCMH, Mrs. AnushaGokula, Director, Dept. of Social Services, Dr. (Mrs.) NirmalaWijesinghe, Secretary of NCMH, Mr. RohanWeerasekera, National Programme Commissioner Sri Lanka Scout Association and Mr. A.G. Wimalasiri, Director of MalibanBuscuits. Schools that participated are Royal College and RathnavaliBalikaVidyalaya, well wishes and friends. An exhibition of Arts and Crafts were organized by the clients of NCMH. The Department of health services displayed exhibits at this event .The entire programme was a success with the support and assistance received from the staff of NCMH. |

SEPTEMBER 2015 |
FASHION SHOW 'CHANGING LIVES'– SEPTEMBER 2015 |
The National Council for Mental Health was able to organize an un- paralleled successful Fashion Show 'Changing Lives' on 20th September 2015 at Hilton Hotel, Colombo, as a fund raiser. This event was attended by a large number of distinguished members, well wishers, and public and cooperate sectors. The purpose of the event was to enhance funding in order to maintain the present services and invest in new evidence based services.
The Principal sponsor of the Fashion Show was Fashion Bug. Also present were Professor Nalaka Mendis, founder of NCMH, Dr. Nirosha Mendis, President of NCMH and the Management Committee with the staff.
Entertainment was followed by Musical interlude, Quizzes, Entrance ticket draw, Sing-a-long with Cliffords and Dance competions and buffet.. We also would like to thank all who were present and the contributions received towards which will go towards our worthy cause. We are eagerly looking forward to our next year's giant leap fashion show which plans are already been made to have another successive year. |

NCMH clients won the highest number of awards at the talent competition for those who are with special needs 'Prathibha Prabha 2015' organized by the Department of Social Services - Western Province.
1st palce & 1st runner up in Dancing category & poem writing category, runner up in folk singing category, 1st place & 2nd runner up in creative writing category , runner up in hand crafts category & 2nd runner up in Painting category of the talent search were clients of NCMH. |

ANNUAL TRIP OF NCMH GORAKANA RESIDENTIAL FACILITY |
The Gorakana residential facility of the National Council for Mental Health, organized it's one day annual trip to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala & zoological gardens in Peradeniya on 03rd September 2015. A full day activity was planned for forty one clients which was also participated by eight staff members from NCMH residential facility in Gorakana. |

The second in a series of 'Sahanaya Talks' was held on 05 August 2015 at the NCMH auditorium. The guest speaker, Mr. K. Kanag-Isvaran, PC, delivered an enlightening and entertaining speech, titled, 'Selected aspects of the law of Thesawalamai and its practical application in Sri Lanka.' Those in attendance included medical and legal professionals. |

'COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH' ONE DAY TRANINING PROGRAME |
A one day training was organized by NCMH for final year medical students of the South Asian Institute of Technology & Medicine (SAITM) – Malabe on 02nd July 2015. The training covered both the technical and practical components of community mental health. |

32ND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING |
The National Council for Mental Health held its 32nd Annual General Meeting on 26th June 2015 at Borella, in the presence of a large gathering. The meeting commenced at 3.00 p.m. by lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Management Committee Members. It was participated by distinguished guests, NCMH Borella and Gorakana staff. Dr. Nirosha Mendis, President and Consultant Psychiatrist of NCMH was elected as the President for the year 2015. |

Mental health awareness programme was conducted by Dr. Gamini Prematilake, Consultant Psychiatrist at the NCMH auditorium for Grama Niladharis and Development Officers in the Divisional Secretariat, Thimbirigasyaya. It was participated by the divisional secretary Mrs. Geethamani C. Karunartne and 27 officers on 23rd June 2015. |

ANNUAL ONE DAY TRIP FOR CLIENTS AT REHABLITATION CENTRE |
The National Council for Mental Health, Borella, organized their one day annual trip to the newly opened Zoological Gardens, Pinnewala and Asia's tallest Buddha statute at Kurunegala on 19th June 2015. A full day activity was planned for the sixteen clients which was also participated by a volunteer. |

COMMEMORATION OF 32ND YEAR OF 'SAHANAYA' ON NATIONAL HEROES' DAY – 22.05.2015 |
The NCMH commemorated its 32nd year of 'Sahanaya Day on 22nd May 2015 by providing lunch to the disabled war heroes at Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama on National Heroes Day. Colonel (Dr.) Saman Thilakarathne, Commanding Officer of the rehabilitation and Dr. (Mrs.) Ranasinghe of the Ranaveru Sevena, participated in the event with the Management and staff of the NCMH. |

10TH ANNUAL CONVENTION – LION LADIES DISTRICT 306B2 |
Dr Nirosha Mendis, Consultant Psychiatrist and President of NCMH delivered a presentation on the topic of ‘A Healthy Balanced Life’ at the 10th Annual Convention of Lion Ladies District 306B2 which was held on 09th May 2015 at the BMICH, Cinema Hall, Colombo .Lion Ladies from all districts participated in the event, which was followed with several stage dramas from members of the districts. |

Sinhala & Tamil New Year Celebration 2015 - Borella & Gorakana |
The Sinhala and Hindu New Year celebration of NCMH, Borella centre was held on 24th April 2015, which is an annual event, especially celebrated for the care receivers in the Rehabilitation Division. The care receivers, volunteers, care givers of the Rehabilitation centre were present at the occasion. Many entertainment events took place such eating buns, blowing balloons, breaking the pot by the blind, marking the eye of the elephant and musical chairs, selecting of the Avurudu kumari and Avurudu kumarya are a few games that were held on that day. All clients participated in the events, where prizes were awarded for the respective winners. |

It was participated by the founder Professor Nalaka Mendis and wife, volunteers, caregivers and members of the committee. |

33RD ANNIVERSARY OF NCMH 'SAHANAYA DAY' – MULTI HEALTH SERVICE CAMPAIGN |
The 33rd Anniversary of The National Council for Mental Health was commemorated on 13 March 2015 with the participation of the neighboring community. The ceremonial speech was presented by the founder of NCMH Professor Nalaka Mendis who highlighted the cause of the Organization with the past memories to the gathering. It was participated by Dr. Nirosha Mendis, President, Consultant Psychiatrist of NCMH, Mr. A.G. Wimalasiri, Chairman of Maliban Biscuits Manufactories (Pvt) Ltd. Major General K.J. Wijetilake, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation.
After the opening speech, the guests and others were treated with refreshments. The neighborhood community, invitees, friends and relatives of staff graced the occasion.
The day's activities were highlighted with the under mentioned campaign sponsored by the Dental Institute of Ministry of Health, Diabetes Association of Sri Lanka.

REHABILITATION CLIENTS AT 'KELANIYA RAJA MAHA VIHARAHA' – MARCH 2015 |
The clients at the rehabilitation centre in Borella, were taken to Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya situated on the banks of the Kelani River. Being just seven miles from Colombo. Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya is the most sought after Temple for the Buddhists in and around Colombo. A group of 15-17 clients from NCMH participated in the religious activities such as 'Nil Mal' from the nearby 'Pond with coconut oil, incense sticks etc., for worshiping Lord Buddha. An explanation was given by a Buddhist Monk to the Clients of the wall pictures and statues at the temple made them a memorable pilgrimage, which wounded at about 1.30 p.m. after the mid day meal consumption |

The National Council for Mental Health held its first Art & Craft Exhibition on the 30th & 31st January 2015 at the Art Gallery, Colombo 7. It was organized by the Rehabilitation Department of the Borella Office. The opening ceremony was done by Professor Nalaka Mendis, founder of the NCMH. |
