Christmas Carols and evening of fellowship was held on 17th December 2016, at N C M H auditorium Borella. Clients and Staff at the day center participated in this programme.
Mr.Romesh De Silva, President Counsel, Professor Nalaka Mendis, Founder N C M H, Dr.Nirosha Mendis , President , the members of the Management Committee, volunteers, and other distinguished guests were present at the occasion.
The president and the Management Committee express their sincere thanks and gratitude for those who were present and also who extended their cooperation to make this event success.

Conducted a training programme on counseling for Medical Officers and nursing officers in youth friendly centres in Government Hospitals, from 21st to 25th November 2016, at Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Services Training Institute, Colombo.
The programme was organized by the Family Health Bureau, Ministry of Health.

NCMH marked the World Mental Health Day on 10th of October at the Borella headquarters. The event commenced with the conduct of religious observances by Ven. Borella Athula Thero. In his speech Prof. Nalaka Mendis (Founder of NCMH-Sahanaya) highlighted the role played by NCMH during the last couple of decades in the delivery of mental health education, awareness and advocacy. Sangeeth Nipun Prof. Sanath Nandasiri was the Chief Guest of the event. The maestro shared his thoughts on possible therapeutic effects of music that can be harnessed to improve overall mental health of communities. Brigadier Indunil De Silva (Director, National Youth Corps) was the Guest of Honour whilst several other dignitaries including Dr. Gamini Jayawardhena (NFTH Malabe), Dr. S. Ratnapreya (Lanka Hospitals) and Mrs. Hiranthi Gunawardhena (UN Colombo Office) graced the occasion. A contingent of scouts of Royal College led by Mr. Rohan Weerasekera (Scout Commissioner) and several other groups of students from various schools in Colombo took part in this informative event organized by the NCMH Staff.

Mr. Nishantha Vithanage, Administrator NCMH Gorakana, conducted a two day training program for a group of nurses from Nawaloka Hospitals PLC. Areas covered included:

 Principles of Counselling
 Psychiatric emergencies
 Patient confidentiality

Mr. Tuan Jamalon, Training Manager - Paramedical Services, Nawaloka Hospitals PLC, presided over the workshop.

Sports Festival 2016

The clients of the Gorakana Residential Facility won medals at the festival conducted by the Sports Ministry and the Social Service Department for the persons with Special Needs.

Annual General Meeting 2016

The participants were Prof. Nalaka Mendis – Founder of the National Council for Mental Health, Management Committee, other distinguished guests including Air Chief Marshal (retd) Harsha Abeywickrema, Mr. L D A Jayasinghe, Snr. Chartered Accountant of Jayasinghe & Co. and the staff of NCMH Borella and Gorakana. Dr. Nirosha Mendis was unanimously elected as the President for the year 2016 once again. The event ended successfully.

A group of "Visakha Vidyalaya" class of "86" donated cash in memory of Mrs. Eileen Siriwardhana, a former principal of Visakha Vidyalaya and an active member of "Sahanaya" many years ago. The participants were Prof. Nalaka Mendis, Mrs. Cyrene Steele, daughter of Mrs. Siriwardhana, Mrs. Dulsiri Jayasingha, some students of this batch including former Committee members of NCMH and some distinguished guests.

Dr. Krishantha Wirasinghe and Mr. Danushka Hewawasam conducted an awareness Programme on Mental Health and Stress Management for a request made by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority - Mahapola Training Institute Colombo at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority main Auditorium for their staff members. Mr. Gamini Subasinghe, Programme Coordinator and Ms. Yasintha Sanjeewani also participated in the event.
